Technology Return & Retirement Newshttp://hew.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/73Technology Return & Retirement News
June 24, 2020

Dear Parents,

REMINDER:

If you have a school computer or Chromebook (SEA or from the learning commons), today is the day to bring it back to the school. We will be receiving borrowed equipment at the front door of the school from 7 – 11 am today, June 24.

RETIREMENT NEWS:

We wanted to share some very important news with you. Two of our fabulous staff members are retiring this year. This is their time to celebrate and our opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you.

Mrs. Prince has been a part of the Hewitt's Creek family for the past 7 years. Before she came to Hewitt's, Mrs. Prince has taught at Shanty Bay, W.R. Best, Forest Hill, Ardtrea, Codrington, Allandale and Algonquin Ridge Public Schools. Anyone who has met Mrs. Prince knows she is a dynamo! Her love of learning and of life is infectious. Our school community has been fortunate indeed. For 27 years, Mrs. Prince's dedication and caring nature has set her students up for success right from the start. She loves children and loves watching and helping them learn and grow. Although we are sad we won't see Mrs. Prince each day, we know that she will be able to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Mrs Wichert is also retiring this year. It has been wonderful to have her with us for the past few years. We are so appreciative of her hard work and dedication to all her students and her leadership within the school. Before Hewitt's, she taught in York Region. Since moving to Simcoe County, she has taught in Alcona Glen, Trillium Woods and King Edward Public Schools. After 32 years of teaching, Mrs. Wichert deserves to put her feet up and have a well-deserved break, without a bell involved.

Mrs. Prince and Mrs. Wichert, thank you for giving so much of yourselves to our students and staff. You will be missed at Hewitt's. You know what we say though…

Not good-bye, but so long, until we see you again. Once you are a part of Hewitt's Creek, you're always part of the Hewitt's Creek Family.

Kind regards,

Nancy Jones

Principal – Hewitt's Creek P.S.

Administrator Changehttp://hew.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/68Administrator Change
I wanted to share with all of you that I will be moving to Mapleview Heights P.S. in September 2020. These moves are dictated by senior administration and based on the needs of our schools and the skill set of the administrators. The sad thing, of course, will be bidding all of you farewell. I feel very fortunate to have been at Hewitt's for the past six years. The memories that I have and the connections I have made with all of you, are treasures that I will carry with me, always. I look forward to hearing updates about the wonderful accomplishments of our Hurricanes in the future.

Mrs. MacAlpine will remain as the Vice Principal at Hewitt's. She will be joined by Ms. Pamela Hamilton, who will be the incoming Principal. Ms. Hamilton comes to Hewitt's with a wealth of experience. She is looking forward to working with the students, our families and our staff. The three of us will work together to ensure the transition is a smooth one.

"Change is good for the soul." This is something I share when others are making changes! I will certainly keep this in my mind as I start my next exciting adventure. It has been wonderful being at Hewitt's Creek with you. I wish each of you happy trails, wherever they lead you.

Kind regards,

Nancy Jones

Principal

Student Belonging Pick Uphttp://hew.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/69Student Belonging Pick Up
Student belongings will be ready for parents to pick up June 10 – 12 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00p.m. To reduce the number of people on site and to reduce wait time, we are asking one parent to come on their designated day to pick up all family members' belongings, please. We will include any medication, currently being stored in the office, in the bag of belongings for pick up.

No families will be given access to the school. All items will be distributed from the gym door on the north side of the building. Please maintain social distancing while waiting in line.

As many shoes are not labelled with student names, it would be helpful if you could email your child's teacher with a description of your child's shoes - colour, brand, size.

Items from our Lost and Found will be on display for pick up.

If you have any items that you would like to drop off at the school (i.e. home reading books, library books, etc), please put them in a bag labelled with your child's name, along with their teacher's name, so we can track the item being returned. The program is committed to supporting children grieve and grow after loss. It supports children who may be working through loss due to the death of a parent, divorce or for children in foster care. Children meet weekly, with a trained facilitator and a small group of similarly aged children. If you are interested in this program for your child, it is recommended that you first talk to your child's teacher and then contact the school coordinator, Kerri-Ann Cappadocia, to place your child's name on the list for Rainbows groupings.
