School Family Planting Day and Celebrationhttp://hew.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/46School Family Planting Day and Celebration
We are very excited about all of the activity in our school yard! We are having an outdoor classroom and learning space added to our big hill. There will be many large trees, rocks, shrubs, smaller plants and learning features. We have been working with many groups to get things rolling. Our student researchers started things off by conducting research and surveying students and staff. This research and the continued work of our students with our school staff, school board staff, our local conservation authority and our public health nurse has resulted in Phase One of our Schoolscaping project. Part of this is already installed on our big hill! The second part involves smaller plants and help from you, our school community.

We are inviting you to a Hewitt's Creek School Family Planting Day and Celebration on Wednesday, September 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Bring your shovels and gardening gloves and join in the fun!

We have been very fortunate to have received funding and several grants to improve our school yard. Our Students as Researchers received money from the Ministry of Education for this project. The large trees, shrubs and the materials to support the plants' growth have been generously funded by a Tree Canada grant. Our school board has also been a terrific part of the project team supporting with personnel and with significant funding. We have been very grateful for the work that the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and our Public Health Nurse have done on the team. Their work researching and writing reports and grant proposals has been fantastic. This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada. Ce projet est financé en partie par le gouvernement du Canada.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday, September 27 from 5 – 7 p.m. We have a lot to celebrate and a lot to gain by coming together as a school community to complete the planting activities!

Sincerely,

Nancy Jones and the Hewitt's Creek Schoolscaping Team
