Rainbows Program Program
The Rainbows Program is being offered at Hewitt's Creek this year. The program is committed to supporting children grieve and grow after loss. It supports children who may be working through loss due to the death of a parent, divorce or for children in foster care. Children meet weekly, with a trained facilitator and a small group of similarly aged children. If you are interested in this program for your child, it is recommended that you first talk to your child's teacher and then contact the school coordinator, Kerri-Ann Cappadocia, to place your child's name on the list for Rainbows groupings. Please contact Mrs. Cappadocia if you have questions about the program.

Coats For Kids For Kids
For the month of November, we will be starting a new project called Coats for Kids. Many families in Barrie find it difficult to buy their children outerwear for the cold winter months. Every year, they stand in line at various charities to receive items and they are turned away. We thought that Hewitt's Creek could help and so we're asking families to donate gently used: coats, snowsuits, hats, mitts, and scarves. There is a drop-off box outside the office, near the main doors of the school.

Knitting for Hospice for Hospice
Our Hewitt's Creek knitting club will be collecting knitted squares this year to give to patients of Hospice and the RVH. If you would like to knit up some squares, we'd gladly accept them here at the school OR we're also looking for donations of all types of yarn. We will be looking for some crocheters in the spring who will be able to assist us in joining up our knitted squares to form the blankets. This is an outreach project and a community project.

**** ANY TYPE OF YARN CAN BE USED...AS LONG AS THE SQUARE MEASURES 7 in. by 7 in. & is in the GARTER STITCH

example: 1 pair of 5mm knitting needles

Shetland Chunky (100g)

Cast on 30 stitches ( this should measure 7 inches long)

****KNIT IN GARTER STITCH (all rows are knitted) until the square measures 7 inches wide.

Please drop off your squares and/or yarn in our front lobby!

Thank you very much!

Orange Shirt Day Shirt Day

September 30 is Orange Shirt Day. Because this day falls on a Sunday, our school and the Simcoe County School Board will be participating in Orange Shirt Day on October 1. This day is about communities coming together in a spirit of reconciliation and hope because every child matters.

Orange Shirt Day grew out of Phyllis Webstad's story of having her new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the St. Joseph Mission residential school. It has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year

For more information please visit:
